Safeguarding

Our Commitment to Safeguarding at Urmston Day Nursery

At Urmston Day Nursery, the safety, well-being, and happiness of your little ones are at the heart of everything we do. We understand that as parents, you want to feel confident that your child is in a nurturing and secure environment. That’s why we have clear, robust safeguarding policies in place to protect every child in our care.

What Safeguarding Means

Safeguarding goes beyond protecting children from harm – it’s about ensuring their overall well-being. This includes:

  • Supporting children’s physical and emotional well-being and ensuring children feel valued, listened to, and supported every day.
  • Providing care tailored to children with special educational needs, disabilities, or medical conditions.
  • Creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment where children can thrive.
  • Encouraging emotional security through trusted relationships with our dedicated team members.

Our approach to safeguarding is built on care, trust, and transparency, ensuring every child is safe, happy, and supported.

Our Approach to Safeguarding

To maintain the highest standards of safety, we follow a thorough safeguarding framework across all our nurseries and pre-schools:

  • Collaboration with Local Authorities & Professionals – We work closely with local safeguarding teams, social services, and healthcare professionals to provide support when needed.
  • A Strong Safer Recruitment Policy – Every member of our team undergoes an enhanced DBS check, thorough referencing, and detailed interviews to ensure they are fully committed to providing a safe and caring environment.
  • Dedicated Safeguarding Leads in Every Nursery – Each setting has trained Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) who oversee all child protection concerns and ensure our policies are followed correctly.
  • Ongoing Safeguarding Training – Our team members receive regular training to stay up to date with safeguarding best practices and legal requirements, ensuring they can identify and respond to concerns quickly and effectively.

A Shared Responsibility

At Urmston Day Nursery, we believe safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. By working together with parents, carers, and professionals, we create a secure, supportive, and engaging environment where children feel safe and valued.

Keep Your Code Active

Every three months, log back into your GOV.UK childcare account to:

  • Confirm your details are still correct.
  • Avoid any pause in your government-funded hours.

How Does Urmston Day Nursery Support Government Funded Childcare?

At Urmston Day Nursery, we know childcare costs can be tricky. That’s why we:

  • Remind you when it’s time to re-confirm your code every three months.
  • Answer any questions you have – just contact us or chat with your local setting.
  • Plan fun, learning-filled days for your child.

Extra Support You Might Get Tax-Free Childcare

  • Who it’s for: Any working family (including those with the 30 hours code).
  • What you save: Up to £2,000 per child per year (or £4,000 if your child has a disability).

How to use it:

  1. Apply or sign in at the same GOV.UK childcare account.
  2. Deposit money into your Tax-Free Childcare account.
  3. The government adds £2 for every £8 you pay in.

  5. Learn more about Tax-Free Childcare here

💡Key point: This runs alongside your 30 hours code – so you can stack the savings.

15-Hour Entitlement for Families on Benefits

Who it’s for: Families receiving any of these benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Universal Credit
  • Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit

What you get:
